Ultralight Flying Adventures!

Cross Country Flight to the Lake
Hemet, California

Fog crossing the roadThe day started out very early with a drive north from San Diego to Hemet, California.

It seemed very peaceful on the way north, with only a small about of traffic on the road at 6:30 a.m. The sun was about to rise and there was just a hint of morning sky glow. The first hint that today was going to be different occurred as I passed the Lawrence Welk Village near Escondido, California.

A low hanging fog bank was drifting up out of the adjacent valley and looked somewhat menacing as it crossed the freeway.

Pala Creek ValleyA few minutes later, I noticed an incredible sight beginning to develop and pulled over to take in the view.

I would describe the view as "spectacular"! But you be the judge.

The valley below is part of a community known as Pala Creek. What a moment in time!

Sometimes one gets to be in just the right place at just the right time. This was one of those moments.

Mike's MX UltralightThe rest of the trip to Hemet was uneventful and Mike and I quickly prepped our ultralights and headed North to explore the region.

The early morning fog hadn't made it as far inland so we had clear blue skies and smooth air flying conditions.

Mike and I had recently installed two way radio systems on our ultralights and it was nice to be able to coordinate our flight and chit chat along the way.

Lake north of HemetThe lake was amazing after the dryness of the surrounding terrain. It seem to stretch out in front of us for miles and miles.

Apparently the runoff from the rainy season hadn't fully drained and the road we were following simply continued into the lake. From our vantage point you could see a line of telephone poles running across the lake and slowly getting smaller and smaller until they just vanished a few hundred feet off shore. The strong sunlight had produced an explosion in some type of growth that is just visible in this photo as a light greenish blue stream running across the bottom of the photo.

Lake edge north of HemetNear the edge of the lake I was able to take a very interesting photo of some bluish colored deposits and green algae in the waters edge.

It's really difficult to judge sizes in this picture. The three objects in the lower right of the frame are each about 8 to 10 ft. long.

After a couple of low passes along the edge, we headed back to the airport and called it a day.

What an adventure!
